William “Bill” Lalor, age 84, longtime Webster resident, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Dove Health in Superior, Wisconsin, following a long struggle with COPD. He had beaten lung cancer in 2021 and was in remission from that at the time of his death.

Bill was born on September 13, 1941, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Clinton and Alvina (Hubbard) Lalor, the third of their children. His younger years were spent in the Madison and Oregon, Wisconsin areas before the family moved to the Webster area.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963, as a signal lineman, with duty posts in Korea, Ft. Huachuca, AZ, and Ft. Riley, KS. Following his discharge from the Army, Bill worked much of his life as an over-the-road truck driver, with heavy equipment (including the iron mines where the dump-truck’s tires were twice as tall as him), and logging.

In 1965 Bill married Georgia (Brethorst) in Pine City, Minnesota, with whom he shared 46-years of marriage until her death in 2011. Upon marrying Georgia, Bill became stepfather to Georgia’s three children from a prior marriage: Sheila (Berklund); Kim Lalor; and Lee Griffin. In 1971, Bill welcomed his only child, Chad La Lor (who insisted on spelling and pronouncing his name slightly different in Jr. High school).

Bill, Georgia, and Chad moved around a fair amount from the Webster area to Minnesota, other parts of Wisconsin, a short stint in Colorado, before returning home to roost in Webster in 1983.

Bill loved to fish and hunt throughout his lifetime. This included the goofy “Lalor-Christianson” hunting party for the past few decades. He also found gunsmithing to be a favorite hobby, having been taught some tricks of the trade by Herman Bastian.

In his last years, Bill enjoyed spending time with his furry companions, Beau, Rusty, Sadie, and Jack. They were often seated at his side as he watched Nascar, the Packers, Cops, or Judge Judy. Bill also liked visiting with Chad and Heath and providing guidance to Chad as he attempted to repair this or that on a vehicle, his 1953 Case tractor, or various home improvement projects. He also enjoyed going on The Great Douglas County tractor ride, and participating (as an Iron River VFW member, thanks to Chad signing him up) with the Poplar Legion Post’s annual Memorial Day ceremonies for many years.

Bill is survived by Chad (Heath); his sisters Bernice (Boelter), Janice (Packard), and Linda Blodgett; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Georgia, stepdaughter Kim, and his parents.

A gathering of family and friends will be held to celebrate his life at the Webster Senior Center on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
