Shirley A
Wagenuis
Dec 31, 1950 — Aug 18, 2026
Shirley Ann Wagenius, age 75, of Grantsburg, WI, passed away unexpectedly on August 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her.
Shirley was born in Grantsburg, WI, on December 31, 1950, to Walter and Amelia Goodremote. It was in this small town that she grew up and eventually met and married Dennis Alfred Wagenius on July 26, 1975. Together, they made their home on the Wagenius family farm, where they spent the 37 years they were blessed to share together.
Shirley was a hardworking woman who took pride in her work. For much of her life, she worked at a restaurant at Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN, where she enjoyed working in the kitchen and prepping food for the cooks. Even after experiencing health complications, Shirley was eager to return to work and later found employment at the Walmart deli in St. Croix Falls, WI.
Shirley was no doubt a busy bee and a little stubborn. When she wasn’t working, she could often be found crocheting afghans for her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, playing solitaire, or spending time with friends over a meal or at bingo. No one had to wonder whether Shirley forgot about them, as she made sure she checked in on her family and friends several times per day to see what they were up to.
She was a devoted Christian, and she faithfully attended church on Sundays at Living Hope Church. In her final weeks, when she was no longer able to attend in person, Shirley looked forward to when her minister would travel to her home for weekly Bible studies.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Wagenius; brother, Daniel (Lois) Goodremote; sister, Beverly Schlechter; daughter, Shannon (Joe) Blume; and sons, Gary Wagenius and Terry Wagenius. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Brittanie, McKayla, Tiffany, Kolton, and Marcus; one great-granddaughter, Adelynn; and many other family members and friends who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Amelia; husband, Dennis; brothers, Floyd and Adolph; sisters, Frances, Lisa, and Clara; and grandson, Kevin.
Though her family will miss her dearly, they will carry with them the memories and laughter they shared and a few minute-long voicemails in their inboxes.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Swedberg Taylor Funeral Homes & Cremation Services in Grantsburg, WI on August 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. Visitation will take place prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.
Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster. Online condolences may be expressed at www.swedberg-taylor.com.
