Richard Clayton “Dick” Bailey, age 75, of Siren, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014. The son of the late Mildred (Bailey) McCracken was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 22, 1939. Dick was adopted at an early age and raised by his maternal grandparents, the late Joseph and Pearl Bailey in Washington, Indiana. As an adult, Dick lived initially in Crawfordville, IN. In 1965, He moved to Chicago, IL, where he met Gloria J. Rowell. They were married on October 29, 1965. He worked in various restaurants and then was a truck driver for many years. Later, Richard and Gloria lived briefly in Minneapolis, MN and Loogootee, IN. He has lived in the Siren area the past 13 years. Among the many activities Dick enjoyed were fishing, deer hunting, travelling, and having fun with the kids at amusement parks, state and county fairs, and at Chuck E. Cheese. Richard is survived by his wife, Gloria; two children: James (Lisa) Bailey and Cindy Baier; two stepchildren: Jimmy Rowell and Wendy (Russell) Cook II; fourteen grandchildren: Kynda Thompson, Kory Jones, Christopher Rood, Caleb Bailey, and Katie Jo Bailey; also, Glenn Baier, Michael Baier, Brian Johnson, Bradley Johnson, Evan Will, and Zachary Will; and Aprildawn Seitz, R.C. Cook III, and Ethan Cook; seven great-grandchildren; as well as close friends and other relatives and friends. Besides his birth mother, and his grandparents who adopted him, he is preceded in death by a grandson, James Bailey. Per Richard’s request, there will not be any formal services.
