Paul Rhynhart Schauer passed away on July 7, 2026, at the age of 90.
He was born in Siren on April 13, 1936, to Doris and Ervin Schauer, the oldest of six. He graduated from Siren High School in 1954. He enlisted in the Marines and spent 2 years at Camp Pendleton. When he was discharged, he married Barbara Lindh in 1956. They moved between St. Paul, Hudson, and River Falls, eventually landing in Houlton, where they built their home.
They had two children, Susan and Craig. He worked at various jobs while attending St. Paul Vocational Technical College. Ultimately, his working career of 35 years was at UFE, Inc., based in Stillwater, MN. After retirement in 1995, he moved back to Siren, where he built his final home.
He was an avid hunter, enjoying the deer hunting season at his brother's hunting shack with friends and family. He, his brothers, and his son also took an annual moose hunting trip to Canada in the fall. He also loved to tend his vegetable garden. Making tomato juice and sauerkraut with the harvest.
He has had many friends over the years, two of whom included Edie Gloege, who passed away in 2006, and Sue Klatt of Houlton.
He is survived by his children. Susan (Bruce) Ketchum of Hudson, Craig (Mary Anne) Schauer of Solon Springs; grandchildren, Charles (Kimberly) Lindstrom, Elissabeth (Matt) Stomberg, Hannah (Joe) Peterson, and Jeb (Nicole) Schauer; great-grandchildren, Colton, Jaxon and Henry Lindstrom, Carter, Aiden and Peyton Stomberg, Cloie and Sawyer Peterson, and Graham Schauer. Brother, Ervin (LaRae) Schauer; sisters, Jean Dodenhoff and Julie Schauer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Ervin Schauer; brothers, Wayne and LaVerne (Swede) Schauer; grandson, Justin Lindstrom; and granddaughter-in-law, Shara Lindstrom.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Spooner Civic Center in Spooner, Wisconsin, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, with full military honors.
