Paul Huskamp

Paul William Huskamp, age 68, a resident of Grantsburg, WI passed away on December 10, 2022 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Paul was born on September 19, 1954 in Estherville, Iowa to parents Robert and Laura Huskamp.

After graduating from high school Paul went on to college, earning his associates degree at Golden Valley Lutheran College. He subsequently earned a vocational degree and worked as a marine mechanic. Later in life, he went back to school where he received his bachelor’s degree in education, which became his primary occupation.

Paul married the love of his life Marilyn Peterson on August 9,1980.

Paul loved to teach, coach, and serve others. He was the living example of a Philippians 2 servant leader. He was a faithful husband, father, friend, and grandfather who always pointed everyone in his life to Christ. He loved to run- around Grantsburg, marathons, or with his student athletes. One of the highlights of his life was coaching Cross Country. Paul led many teams to the Wisconsin State meet. He was voted District 1 Coach of the Year with his Cross-Country team in 2011 and this achievement was reflective of his approach to challenge each team member to strive for excellence.

In recent years, he loved the sunshine of Florida in the winter, hiking, and bike rides with his family. In addition to teaching 5th grade for 20+ years, his hard-working spirit led him to start Wood Lake Lawn Service, a business he enjoyed managing for decades. Paul served faithfully in his church as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Church Chairman. The joy of our Lord was his strength. Paul’s love, laughter and sweet smile will always be with us. We will always love and miss you.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Laura; mother-in-law, Carol Peterson; father-in-law, Carl Peterson; and brother-in-law, David Peterson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Marilyn; daughter, Beth (David) Thompson; son, Nathan Huskamp, three grandchildren, Malachi, Savannah, and Soren Thompson; sister, Patricia Jameson; brothers, Randall Huskamp, John (Denise) Huskamp, David (Karen) Huskamp, and Steven (Debra) Dutton; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 2:00 PM (visitation form 12:00-2:00 PM) at the Calvary Covenant Church in Alpha, WI with Pastor Scott Sagle officiating. Interment will follow at Anscarius Cemetery in Wood River Township with pallbearers Randall Huskamp, John Huskamp, John Moore, Pat Snyder, Mike Anenson and John Bruihler. Honorary pallbearers David Huskamp and Jerry Halverson.
