Otmer “Andy” Gordon Anderson , age 91, of Grantsburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Burnett Medical Continuing Care Center. Andy was born on April 3, 1926 in Wood River Twp., to parents, Minnie (Brown) and Ernest Anderson. He graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1943. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy on December 27, 1943. Andy served during the end of the World War II era. He was stationed on the USS Southerland that was one of the first ships to sail into Tokyo Bay after the bombing. On April 9, 1947 he was honorably discharged. On June 5, 1948, Andy was united in marriage to Delores Nelson. Two years after their union, their son David was born and two years later, their daughter Debra was born. They bought the bait shop in Falun in 1958, which they named, “Andy’s Bait Shop” and owned and operated it until 1998. They worked together, side by side for 40 years. Andy loved being involved in the American Legion and served as the 12 th District Commander and State Vice Commander for many years. Preceding Andy in death is his loving wife, Delores; his parents; and his 4 brothers and 6 sisters. Andy is survived by his children: David (Rae Ann) Anderson and Debra (Jim) Powell; grandsons: Michael, Kevin and Jon; great-grandchildren: Nick, Summer, A.J., Brandon, Wyatt and Donavin; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00am (visitation from 10-11:00am) at the Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Grantsburg with Pastor Steve Ward officiating. Full military honors will be rendered at the funeral home following the service. A time of fellowship will be held at the Grantsburg American Legion Hall.
