Loraine Maurer

Loraine (Lory) Elaine Maurer, age 93, a resident of Siren, WI passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Burnett Medical Center, Continuing Care Center in Grantsburg, WI.

Lory was born on May 10, 1929 in Racine, WI., to Alois & Helen (Jurasiewicz) Bruce and grew up in Delavan, WI. Lory graduated from Delavan High School in 1947.

In October 1950, Lory married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) M. Maurer. They started their life together in Delavan and in 1951, welcomed a son, Bruce. In 1953, they welcomed another son, Robert (Bobby).

In 1960, the family moved to Siren, WI, where they purchased Spinners Resort on Upper Clam Lake, renaming it Maurer’s Resort. A few years later, they sold that resort and purchased The Bil-Mar Resort, also on Upper Clam Lake. They worked the resort and tavern until selling in June of 1981; forming many lifelong friendships along the way. They built a home near the resort, where they began their next chapter. Retirement wasn’t a word Lory knew. She would continue to work until shortly after her 90th birthday – an accomplishment she was very proud of.

Throughout the years in Siren, Lory worked for a variety of employers; some of which were J.B. Hansen Hardware, Louie Hagert’s Locker Plant, Anchor Inn, Winberg’s Store, Creative Jewelers and Big Mike’s Outdoor Sports.

Lory enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling and cheering on her Minnesota Vikings, win or lose. But nothing took precedence over the enjoyment of time with her family, whom she loved fiercely. Lory was also a devoted Charter Member of the Siren Lioness, earning the distinctive Melvin Jones Award. She was a driving force for the Annual Lions Club Labor Day Sale; where she spent countless hours helping prepare for the big sale. She enjoyed spending time with her fellow volunteers. She was also honored as the Siren Chamber Volunteer of the Year. She was very proud of each of these honors.

Lory was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Bob in 1991 and a brother Alois (Buddy).

She will be greatly missed by her sons Bruce Maurer (Vanessa) Siren, and Robert (Jackie) Maurer, Siren., along with grandchildren Danny Maurer, Rogers, MN Carey (Bob) Meyer, Osceola, Michael Maurer, Siren and Kendra (Cory) McKnight of Frederic. Also missing her are her 9 great grandchildren, Grace, Jonah & Ella Maurer, Jovie & Jaylee Meyer, Marissa & Isabella Maurer, Dayne & Finley McKnight. Also surviving Lory are her siblings Delores Olson, Delavan, WI Brenda (Denny) Christianson, Webster, Roger Bruce, CA & Kathleen Catalano, NV., Brother-In-Law John Maurer and Sister-In-Law Barbara Maurer, Delavan, Sister-In-Law Yvonne Bruce, FL along with nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life honoring Lory will be held at Knotty Pines (Bil-Mar) on Clam Lake on Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 1:00 – 4:00.

The family would like to thank Burnett Medical Center - Continuing Care Center and Hospice for the care provided as well as the staff at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home.
