Laura Lynn Schwickerath

October 26, 1961 — April 14, 2026

Laura Schwickerath passed away on April 14th, 2026, after a courageous battle with Ovarian cancer, surrounded by loving friends and family. Laura was born in Cedar Rapids, IA, on October 26th, 1961, to Eunie and D.I. Nelson. She grew up in Solon, IA. As an only child, she developed deep relationships with friends and classmates through golf, church, and academic achievements. One of her favorite memories was from her senior year of high school when she got to work the popcorn stand at athletic events.

After high school, Laura attended the University of Iowa, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Glen of New Hampton, IA. Glen struck up a conversation with Laura before a class in their shared major of Computer Science. After graduation, Laura spent time in Detroit, Omaha, and Kansas City starting her professional career and growing her family, before moving to Stillwater, MN for 16 years to raise her child and work at Super Value.

In retirement, Laura called Danbury, WI, home and enjoyed travelling with her husband Glen to many warm winter destinations. They spent time in Albuquerque, Tucson, Ft. Meyers, and would return to Iowa City every fall to catch Hawkeye football games. Laura also loved visiting her daughter in Seattle and taking the ferry to explore Bainbridge Island.

When living the cabin life, she enjoyed golfing at Fox Run, dancing and clogging, and Thursday afternoon hangouts with neighbors and friends. She filled her days taking wildlife photos, catching sunsets over the lake, and listening to loon calls.

One of Laura’s highlights of retirement was becoming a background actor for movies and TV shows. You can catch her in several popular series, including Longmire and Better Call Saul!

Laura is survived by her daughter, Jenny Schwickerath; brother-in-law Gordon Schwickerath; sister-in-law Vicki (Ken) Kuse; sister-in-law Judy Schwickerath; sister-in-law Cheryl Schwickerath, nephew Chad Schwickerath, and niece Hillary Williams.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Schwickerath, parents Eunice and Dean Nelson, and brother-in-law Merle Schwickerath.

A burial service was held on April 17th, 2026, at Bluff Lake Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life later this summer, with details to come.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.swedberg-taylor.com.
