Jerome L. Gelhar, a resident of Danbury, formerly of Hastings, MN passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the age of 97 years. He was born in Hastings on July 25, 1927 to parents, Joseph and Veronica Gelhar.
He was a graduate of Hastings High School and attended Dunwoody Community College for a brief period before enlisting in the United States Navy at the age of 18. He served as a Seaman until his honorable discharge in 1946.
On July 31, 1948 he married the love of his life, Marion E. Swanson. Jerome worked as a carpenter for Graus Construction for a number of years.
Jerome enjoyed anything wood, fishing, bow hunting and visiting with friends and family. He was quick witted and always had a comeback during conversation. He was involved with the American Legion and the Burnett County Citizens Patrol. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Danbury.
He is preceded in death by his bride, Marion who he missed tremendously; sons, Ron and Joe; granddaughter, Krista Nelson; his parents, Joseph and Veronica; brother, LuVerne; brother in laws and sister in laws.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Jerry) Nelson, sons, Wayne (Diane) Gelhar, Mark (Belinda) Gelhar and Jim Gelhar; daughter in law, Pam Gelhar and Catherine Gelhar; grandchildren, Thomas, , Lisa (Tracy) Mayer, Jeff (Jennie) Nelson, Eric (Kris) Nelson, Michael (Sarah) Gelhar, Justin (Robyn) Gelhar, Amy (Jeff) Sieben, Matt (Crista) Meyers, Tim (Amanda) Meyers, David (Sarah) Gelhar, Brad (Keoni) Gelhar, Pat Gelhar, Jenny Cermak, Ryan (Nomis) Gelhar, Megan Gelhar, Angel (Anthony) Gelhar-Klingert; 26 great grandchildren, siblings, Irene Dalbotten, Richard Gelhar and Herman Gelhar; sister in law, Marlene Swanson along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM (visitation 9-11 AM) at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings. Interment at SEAS Catholic Cemetery with military honors will follow mass. Followed by luncheon at the church.
