Janice Rae Panek, age 90, of Grantsburg, passed away peacefully on September 21st, 2026. Janice was born on August 25th, 1936, to Mary and Albert Hokanson in Frederic, Wisconsin.

She attended Webster High School and graduated in 1955. She married the love of her life, Roger Panek Sr., on June 30th, 1956. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage. Janice was a quiet and gentle woman who found joy in the simple things in life. She enjoyed fishing and crocheting, and her family will remember the countless homemade slippers and washcloths she lovingly made for them. It seemed that nearly every member of the family had several of each, each one a small reminder of her thoughtfulness and love. In her later years, Janice especially enjoyed sitting in the sunshine, reading, and watching the birds. She had a particular fondness for cardinals and would often keep an eye out for them. Most of all, she loved her family.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger; and her siblings, Hazel Hills, Gordon Hokanson, Donald Hokanson, Harold Hokanson, James Hokanson. Janice is survived by her brother, Robert Hokanson Sr., two children, Cheryl (Andy) Nelson and Roger Panek Jr.; four grandchildren, Lisa (Scott) Kapp, Jared (Rachel) Nelson, Benjamin Panek, and Megan Panek, six great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
