James “Jim” Curtis Hokanson , age 78, of Grantsburg, passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side on Monday, June 12, 2017. Jim was born on July 21, 1938 in Grantsburg, to parents, Mary (Everson) and Albert Hokanson. Jim attended Webster High School and graduated in 1956. He went on to attend Dunwoody College and earned his technical degree as a Machinist. Jim enlisted in the United States Army on January 4, 1957 and was honorably discharged on December 13, 1958. Jim married Linda Nottom on May 25, 1963 at the Lutheran Church in Almena, WI. Jim was employed by PCI as a Bridge Foremen, which at the time was located in Osseo, MN., from the late 1970’s to the late 1990’s. In 2004, Jim and Linda retired and moved to the Grantsburg area. Jim was a longtime member of the Grantsburg Central United Methodist Church and liked to spend his time volunteering and attending the Men’s Group weekly meetings there. Jim enjoyed spending his free time woodworking, specializing in hand crafting clocks and furniture. He also liked to spend time in his yard, gardening and feeding the birds. He was a well-mannered man with a heart of gold who always put others first. Jim will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. Preceding Jim in death are his parents; sister, Hazel Hills; brothers: Donald Hokanson, Gordan Hokanson and Harold Hokanson. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda; daughters, Rhonda Bennyhoff and Kim (John) Rupp; grandchildren: Travis (Scarlet) Bennyhoff, Michelle Bennyhoff, Megan Rupp and John Rupp; brother, Robert “Bob” (Doris) Hokanson; Jan (Roger) Panek; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 5-7:00pm at the Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Grantsburg. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00am (visitation from 10-11:00am) at the Grantsburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Kookho Kim officiating. Full military honors will be rendered immediately following the service at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Grantsburg.
