James “Jim” A. Altmann, age 75, a resident of Wyoming, Minnesota died May 7, 2013, with his family at his side. Jim was born on March 7, 1938 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Albert and Marguerite Altmann. He attended Drew Elementary, Wilson High School, and then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mortuary Science. Jim married his high-school sweetheart Janice in 1959, and took a job at Welter Funeral Home in Huron, South Dakota. After moving to Waterville, Minnesota for another funeral home position, Jim moved to Hastings, Minnesota where he began working for a gas company. He later moved to Rochester, Minnesota where he worked for Boutell’s Furniture and then took the manager position at BF Goodrich in St. Paul, Minnesota. After moving to Center City, Minnesota, he owned and operated restaurants in St. Paul (Elevated Cafeteria, and Wabasha Deli and Cafe) and Center City (County Seat Cafe). Prior to his retirement, Jim worked for several years at the Holiday stations in Forest Lake, Minnesota. Jim enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and being outdoors fishing or relaxing in his screened porch and flower garden. He loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Altmann, grandson Joshua Henstein, and his parents. Jim is survived by his wife Janice Altmann; children Karen (Fred) Staley, Mark (Sue) Altmann, Sandra (Ben) Henstein, Rob (Lynn) Altmann, and Melissa Altmann; his 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held for Jim on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 7:00 PM (visitation 5-7 PM) at the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom with Pastor Mike Haseltine officiating. An interment will be held at a later date at the Elmhurst Cemetery in St. Paul, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
