Jack Neurer

Jack C. Neurer , age 86, of Webster, passed away on December 11, 2019, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Jack was born on August 8, 1933, in Cumberland, to parents, Hazel (Christensen) and Alfred Neurer; the third of their four children. He attended Cumberland High School where his athletic career included football, basketball, baseball, as well as hockey with the city league.  After graduation, Jack served four years in the United States Airforce in Texas.   Jack attended the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, earning his bachelor’s degree in Education as well as success on the football field. Playing defensive and tight end for the Falcons, he was named an all-conference player three years and as a senior was an honorable mention All-American. He was inducted into the UW-River Falls Athletic Hall of Fame in 1983 and the Cumberland High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. In 1964, Jack married Margaret Sweet and together they had three children during their 15-year marriage.   Before settling on a teaching career, Jack’s travels led him to fish in Alaska, play semi-pro football for the Seattle Cavaliers in Washington and pour concrete with Andersons in St. Paul. Jack taught at the Webster School district for over 25 years, predominantly as a physical education teacher, traveling to the elementary schools in Danbury, Dairyland, and Webster.  Decades of area youth share memories of his giant parachute, tinikling sticks, square dancing, dodgeball, and tumbling units. His love for hockey led him to resurrect the Webster Youth Hockey Program and helped found the Indianhead Hockey League. Seventeen years of coaching yielded 10 Indianhead playoff championships, 13 regular season crowns, eight state tournament appearances, and four state championships. In 1986, Jack was united in marriage to Tanya Lindquist. The couple had many hobbies they enjoyed doing together, their greatest adventures included traveling to Sweden for the Women’s International Hockey Competition and Vancouver for the Olympics in 2010. Jack enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting, bird watching, wild rice harvesting, golfing, making maple syrup, music, reading, and sports. But his favorite way to spend time was fishing. Fishing trips brought him to British Columbia, Newfoundland, Argentina, Scotland and Norway. Still, after all of those wonderful endeavors, Jack would still say his favorite fishing spots were the ones he first shared with his father on the Clam River and the Brule River. Preceding him in death are his parents; sister, Jean Mackenzie; brother, Dick (Lorraine) Neurer; and nephew, Brian Keyes. Jack is survived by his wife of 33 years, Tanya; daughter, Kristen (Eric Molter) Neurer; sons, Louis (Bridget) Neurer and Aaron (Mari) Neurer; grandchildren: Libby, Jack, Annabelle, Mallory, Caroline, Luca, Cam and Ruth; sister, Linda (David) Keyes; sister-in-law, Tamia (Roth) Trulson, life-long friend Dan Madison; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at 11:00am (visitation from 9:30am – 11:00am) at Grace United Methodist Church in Webster with Pastor Eddie Crise officiating.
