Grace Nelson, 100, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 4, 2023. She was born on January 14, 1923 at the family farm she loved, which had been homesteaded by her parents. She was the youngest child born to John Magnus and Constance Elizabeth (Daniels) Nelson.
As a child Grace placed her faith in Jesus Christ and she served her Lord and Savior for the rest of her long, full life. She attended school in Siren and Frederic, Wisconsin, and then moved to the Twin Cities after graduation. During her career days Grace worked for Allstate insurance for 35 years, often visiting her parents on weekends at the Siren farm. She was actively involved in her Christian Business Women’s Club. After her retirement, Grace returned to live in Siren, helping care for her mother and then living independently at the farm. She loved the rural setting, often sitting on her deck and enjoying the birds.
Grace loved her church and church family at Siren Covenant Church where she was actively involved, especially for many years when she played piano and organ for worship and other services. She loved family times with her brothers, their families, and extended family in the USA and in Sweden. Grace’s nieces and nephews visited often, enjoying Grace’s love and fun sense of humor. In January 2023, Grace celebrated a century of life with many family and friends. Grace’s family, neighbors, and church family helped Grace in recent years so that she was able to remain in her beloved home.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother Howard, her brothers Wallace (Demaris) Nelson and Kenneth (Connie) Nelson, and aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Grace is survived by her cousin Jerry (Joan) Brown in Colorado, her nieces Nancy (Dan) Drabek, Julie (Keith) Peterson, and Margaret (Paul) McNamara, her nephews Dan (Susan) Nelson, Paul (Paola) Nelson, Peter (Cheryl) Nelson, and Tony (Lisa Middag) Nelson, 16 great-nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives. She will be remembered with love and greatly missed.
Friends and family will gather to remember Grace and celebrate her life on Saturday, September 16 at Siren Covenant Church. The memorial service will be at 10:30 am with visitation for one hour before the service. Burial will be held at the Siren Lakeview Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Siren Covenant Church.
