Eugene Wellman

Eugene E. Wellman, age 95, of Grantsburg, died on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Frederic Nursing and Rehab. Eugene was born on November 24, 1929, in Grantsburg to the late Carl and Ellen (Johnson) Wellman. Eugene loved gardening and always had a big garden with lots of vegetables, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and being around his family. He liked to travel to the mountains for vacations but was always happy to be back home where he was most comfortable. Many nights were spent hosting friends or going to friends for visits and snacks. A strict family man, he was known for being well respected in the community and was on several boards and committees including the State Forest Fire Management Committee, Burnett County Board, the Grantsburg School Board, and the Calvary Covenant Church Board. He enjoyed singing old songs including many in Swedish and was known to greet you with "God Dog, God Dog" which means good day in Swedish. Eugene spent over 40 years doing all of the road maintenance for the Town of West Marshland and Crex Meadows.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Wellman; his children, Charles (Christi) Wellman, Margaret (BJ) Auby, Bruce Willis, and Gregory Willis; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Ira Willis; and his brother, Milton Wellman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Covenant Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Calvary Covenant Church in Alpha with Pastor Scott Sagle officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.swedberg-taylor.com.
