Dorothy May Wellman

Dorothy May Wellman, age 93, of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, passed away on June 16, 2026, at Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Dorothy was born on November 9, 1932, in Hertel, Wisconsin, to Marshall and Martha (Bracken) Hotchkiss.

Dorothy loved gardening and took great pride in growing fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers. She enjoyed visiting with neighbors over coffee and snacks, babysitting children in the community, and spending time with her family. She also loved traveling, especially to the mountains, where she enjoyed sightseeing and taking in the scenery.

Throughout her life, Dorothy held a variety of jobs. She worked in a meat locker, at a bean factory, and was known for baking specialty cakes. She concluded her career as a housekeeper at the Grantsburg Hospital and Nursing Home, where she faithfully worked for 30 years until her retirement.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Margret (BJ) Auby, Bruce Willis, Gregory Willis, and Charles (Christi) Wellman; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her husband, Eugene Wellman; her son, Ira Willis; her granddaughter, Connie, and her great grandson, Adam.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Calvary Covenant Church in Alpha, Wisconsin, with Pastor Scott Sagle officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow.

Dorothy's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Frederic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
