Carol Metcalf, age 78, a resident of Grantsburg passed away on January 1, 2021 due to complications from her cancer treatments.
Carol was born in Stanley, Wisconsin on October 4, 1942 to John L. and Norma H. Kessenich. Carol attended school in Stanley. During her senior year she was crowned Miss Stanley Fall Festival in 1959. After high school she went on to beauty school in Chippewa Falls.
While working in Chippewa Falls, she met her first husband, Robert G. Peterson and they were married in July of 1962 in Chippewa Falls.
They moved to Minnesota and rented an apartment in Centerville, MN where they had their first daughter, Carmon in March of 1963. They both continued to work to save money to buy a home in Circle Pines, MN. Carol had to quit working in the beauty shops because the chemicals were too hard on her hands. She then went to work working with companies which built computer boards and did trouble shooting to find problems with the boards. After buying the house in Circle Pines they then had their daughter, Constance in December of 1965 and Cynthia in 1971. In 1976, they built a new home in Circle Pines.
In December of 1977, her husband, Robert passed away.
She later met up with Donald A. Metcalf who earlier had been a friend of the couples. Donald had been divorced and had 3 children of his own, Rick, Boyd and Melissa. In February of 1980, Carol and Donald were married.
Together they worked to build a new home on Sullivan Lake, Minnesota near Brainerd, Minnesota. Don retired and Carol worked for Mille Lacs Casino repairing and working on their computer games.
Don passed in May of 2011.
Carol then battled cancer three times each time winning but putting more and more stress on her body every time.
She moved to Grantsburg in March 2016 to be closer to her children.
No services are scheduled for Carol.
