Carol Jean
Bowman
Jul 30, 1941 — Oct 14, 2026
Grantsburg
Carol Jean Moline was born in West Sweden, WI, on July 30, 1941, to Clarence and Margie Moline. In 1947, sister Judy joined the family, and she and Carol remained not only sisters but best friends for the rest of their lives. Carol attended elementary school at the 2-room West Sweden School and graduated from Frederic High School. She went on to pursue nurse’s training both as a Surgical Technician at Miller Hospital and Licensed Practical Nurse training at Bethesda Hospital. Her early nursing career included Sacred Heart, Swedish Hospital, Siren Hospital, and the Frederic Hospital. Most of her nursing career was at Continuing Care Center in Grantsburg, where she worked for over thirty years, where she formed many lasting relationships with coworkers. She also–at different periods in her life–worked part time as a charge nurse at Shady Knoll and Farr Out Camp.
In 1965, she married Owen Bowman, and together they had 4 children: Robbyn, Rachel, Robert and Randy. She spent many years involved in and dedicated to the Brask-Fossum-Janke American Legion Auxiliary, where she served many roles including President, Vice President, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Chaplain. When not working or serving in the Auxiliary, she enjoyed polka dancing, old-time country music, reading, watching the Packers, and shopping.
Most of all–especially in her later years–she enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and napping with her cat Bentley. She was very proud of all her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, as well as her niece and nephews, and found much joy in attending their events and celebrations. Mom/Aunt/Grandma “Bea” will be known for her resilience, her steadfast ability to tell it like it is, and her deep and loyal care for those she loved.
She departed this earth on October 14, 2026, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence & Margie, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and former in-laws. She is survived by Daughters Robbyn Bowman & Rachel (John) McNally; Sons Robert (Jason) Bowman and Randy (Tera) Bowman; Grandchildren Kaitlin (Lowell) Bishop, Austin (Taylor) Bowman, Olivia McNally and Eve, Kane and Asher Bowman; great-grandchildren Roslin & Linden Bishop, Atalia, Ella, Coen & Hunton Bowman; Sister Judy (Leo) Janke; Godson/Nephew David (Dan) Janke; Nephew Michael (Michele) Janke; Niece Cari (Nick) Shill and many others.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, November 14, at Hummer’s Event Center in Grantsburg from 1 pm to 5 pm, with a short service at 2 pm. Attendees are asked to wear red, black, or cardinals to honor her love of the Northern Cardinal. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Burnett County Humane Society or to plant a tree via A Living Tribute
