Obituary

William "Bill" Alois Johnson, age 94, of Cameron, WI, passed away on September 4, 2026.

Bill and Jean met in Poway, California, in 1976. Their love story began with a simple question when Bill asked Jean if she liked to polka. Jean replied, “I have never done the polka.” A few days later, Bill asked her to go dancing with him, and she said yes. They had a wonderful time, and Jean was hooked, not only on polka dancing, but on Bill as well. After dating for a year, the two decided to make their lives together official and were married, sharing 49 years of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Bill dedicated much of his life to education. He taught Educationally Handicapped children in Mira Mesa, California. He continued his own education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He later went on to earn his Ph.D., reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and helping others.

Bill also proudly served his country. He joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War era and served for 11 years before being honorably discharged in 1961. He continued his military service by joining the Minnesota Air National Guard, where he served until his retirement as a Senior Master Sergeant (S.M.S.) in 1991.

Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jean Johnson; his children from his first marriage, Liz, Eric, Brent, and Chris; his stepchildren, Kelli, Kasei, Kimber, and Kerry; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Johnson and Helen (Weissinger) Johnson; his stepfather, Robert Wilson; and his grandparents, Hannah Weissinger, Allie Weissinger, John Johnson, and Sigrid Wiberg Johnson.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, family, education, service, and 49 years of memories shared with Jean. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
