Betty Vaksdal

June 10, 1939 — January 21, 2026

Betty Lou (Borders) Vaksdal passed away on January 21, 2026, at her home.

The best word to describe her life is loving. Family, friends, pets, or complete strangers - all got hugs from Bettybop

Betty was born on June 10, 1939, in Sullivan, Indiana, to John and Marge (McKinley) Borders. She was the oldest of five children, including Sue, Bill, Dottie, and John Junior. Survived by Sue, Bill, and Dottie. On May 9, 1955 - the night of the junior-senior prom - she eloped to Corinth, Mississippi, to marry her one, true sweetheart, Norman Vaksdal. She was 15, and he was 17. Their marriage lasted for 61 years, until Norm's passing on February 21, 2017. Together, they had three children: Doug (Heather), Diane, and Derek (Naomi). Many grandchildren and great
grandchildren followed.

Betty's life was packed with all the things she loved to do. She sewed and quilted. She spent time with all her friends. She golfed, taught aerobics, and played racquetball. She even ran a half-marathon when she was 40. But flowers were her true passion. Wherever Betty went, flowers were sure to grow. If anyone asked about the explosions of plants outside or in, Betty was happy to share that passion.

There will be a celebration of life by her family in June. Other plans to celebrate her life are in the works and will be shared when appropriate. In the meantime, if anyone wants to honor her, plant a plant, go for a walk in nature, or hug as many people as you can reach.
