Avis Ellen (Hillman) Baker was born to Clyde and Alma Pearson (Hillman) on July 15, 1931. Avis was born at home in the township of Perida, Burnett County, Wisconsin. Avis passed away on April 17, 2026, at Cumberland Care and Rehab at the age of 94.
Avis was married to Edward Baker on November 15, 1952, and to this union, two daughters were born, Dixie and Donna. Avis enjoyed life to the fullest. She was committed to her husband, family, and her faith. Avis enjoyed gardening, canning, freezing, cooking, and baking. In her free time, she enjoyed camping, bingo, word puzzles, and putting puzzles together. She also liked board games and daily exercises.
Avis worked at Alcan's sewing factory in Centuria, Wisconsin, and at Cranberry Marsh in Hertel, Wisconsin. Her most enjoyable job was being a home health care worker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Alma Hillman. Her husband of 56 years, Eddie Baker. Brothers Karl (Milly) Hillman, Richard (Norma Jean) Hillman. Sisters Shirley (Bob) Mack, Audrey Aannonson, and Charlotte Hillman, she was also preceded in death by her nephews Brian Mack and Mark Aannonson, great nephews Theodore Jr., and Timothy Sommerfeld.
She is survived by her daughter, Dixie (Allen) Jeffery, and Donna Tyler. Grandchildren Jason (Carrie) Jeffery, Chad (Sue)Jeffery, Tory Jeffery, Amanda Jeffery, and friend Mathew, and Grahme Jeffery.
A very special thank you to the staff at Cumberland Care and Rehab for all the special care they gave to our mom. Also, a very special thank you to St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to our mom.
Pallbearers: Jason Jeffery, Chad Jeffery, Tory Jeffery, Amanda Jeffery, Mike, and Roger Hillman. Honorary pallbearers: Allen Jeffery, Grahme Jeffery, and Roger Sommerfield
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 22nd, from 9 am to 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lorain Township Cemetery in Frederic, WI. Lunch will be served at the home of Chuck and Linda Hill, after the service at 6241 Burnikel Road, Siren, WI.
