Ann Marilyn (Taylor) Mortenson, age 79, of Meeker, CO, formerly of Trego, WI, passed away unexpectedly in Hertel, WI, on Monday, September 22, 2014, following the funeral and burial of her brother, Roger Taylor. Ann was born in Trego on February 16, 1935, a daughter of the late Mack and Sarah (Arbuckle) Taylor. She attended public schools in Trego and Spooner, graduating from Spooner High School in 1953. She studied art at the Univ. of Wisconsin - Superior, and the Univ. of California - Santa Cruz. Ann married Ronald Lee Mortenson on February 7, 1959. She was employed over 25 years as an Accounts Payable Clerk for Granite Construction Co. of Watsonville, CA. She was an active member of Meeker Methodist Church, and gave much of her time to the Senior Center in Meeker. A member of the St. Croix Chippewa (Ojibwe), Ann was a very talented artistic woman. She created many pieces of Native American metal and beaded jewelry that she liked to display. She also produced many drawings and sketches using pencil and charcoal, as well as canvas paintings using oil based paints. She swam like a fish and enjoyed this activity throughout her life. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and her homemade cinnamon rolls and bread were a family favorite. She strongly believed in always showing proper etiquette and respect, and taught this virtue to her children. She also loved to sing, and always had a song in her heart. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Sarah Taylor; brother, Roger Taylor, on September 16, 2014; brother, Joseph Taylor; and sisters, Carole Foster and Delores Bruggemann. Survivors are four children: Kathleen Mortenson, Sara (Mark) Willis, Ronald Ray Mortenson, and Tim (Carolyn) Mortenson; grandchildren: Michael J. Merchant Jr., Daniel J. Willis, Tammy J. (Robert) Luebbert, and Bethany J. Willis; great-grandchild, Dakota Rose Henderson; a sister, Lynda Summerall of Miami FL; sister-in-law, Brenda Taylor (widow of Roger); and friend and former husband, Ronald Lee Mortenson. Also surviving are many nephews and nieces, including Mac Summerall of Miami FL; Deborah Foster and Jennifer Foster; as well as great nephews and great nieces. Visitation for Ann (Taylor) Mortenson will be held at the St. Croix Tribal Center, Hertel, WI, on Friday, September 26, 2014, beginning at 4:00 pm. The funeral service will be conducted at the tribal center on Saturday, Sep. 27th at 10:00 am with Francis Songetay officiating.
